What are the crankshaft external machining processes?

The main processing procedure of crankshaft outer circle processing is to process the main journal, connecting rod journal, flange and shaft head. This processing procedure is located after the end face of the workpiece is milled and the center hole is drilled. Sometimes, the side of the balance block needs to be processed according to the specific situation. At present, there are three processing technologies for this part.
1. Turning technology
Multi tool turning is a typical machining process for crankshaft journal. The production line is composed of ordinary lathe and special lathe, with low cost and large machining allowance. Many large width forming turning tools are used for Multi Tool cutting. The workpiece is easy to be deformed due to excessive cutting force, resulting in large radial runout. It often needs to be straightened and rough ground after turning, resulting in low production efficiency.
2. Car drawing process
The outstanding advantage of the turning and drawing process is that the crankshaft with wide shaft diameter can be processed in layers, and the processing of the journal, fillet and balance weight side can be completed in one clamping. It is suitable for processing the crankshaft with countersunk groove. During machining, multiple tools are installed on the cutter head, which can improve the cutting efficiency and accuracy. After machining, the precision grinding can be directly carried out to improve the efficiency. However, like multi tool turning, the turning and drawing process is still carried out after the main journal and the connecting rod journal are positioned with their respective axes. In order to avoid excessive inertial force during the processing of the outer circle of the connecting rod journal, the spindle system of the machine tool (including the chuck and the workpiece) needs to be dynamically balanced.
3. Milling process
There are two kinds of milling: internal milling and external milling. When machining the connecting rod journal, the CNC system is used to control the movement trajectory of the tool relative to the workpiece, so that it can be combined into the outer circle of the connecting rod journal.
